Architecture Derailed

Our college got updated from "Bihar College of Engineering" to "National Institute of Technology, Patna" in 2004.

 

The Department of Architecture which existed before the transformation was funded by the State Government of Bihar.

After the transformation, it came under the "Ministry Of Human Resource Development".

 

The sole body governing the Architecture Education in India and practice of Architecture is the Council of Architecture, New Delhi. This is the only body which provides an architect with a registration number to practice architecture lawfully.

 

As the college came under the Central government, it was expected to update itself according to the new funds, and the international exposure gained under the colleges under central government institutes, according to COA norms.

 

However, the college never updated itself, hence COA blocked admissions from 2005 batch onwards in NIT Patna.

 

However, here we are, through Central Counselling Board allotment through All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination(AIEEE), and allotted to NIT Patna, which comes under the governing of MHRD.

 

According to COA...WE DON"T EXIST AS THE ADMISIONS DO NOT EXIST!!!!

OUR ONLY MISTAKE: BEING STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE IN NIT PATNA

We are students of the DEPATMENT OF ARCHITECTURE of NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, PATNA. After passing the ALL INDIA ENGINEERING ENTERENCE EXAMINATION, we were allotted NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, PATNA by the CENTRAL COUNCELLING BOARD which comes under the regulations of MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT.

The only governing body for Architecture education in India known as COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE (COA), has taken away the possibility of making our degree valid i.e. the official registration number which is to be given to the students of architecture after passing out of the college and attaining the degree of Bachelor of Architecture which is needed by us to practice architecture legally, is not going to be given to any of us. This was the condition of the department since 2005.

Despite being in that condition since 2005 the college and the ministry themselves continued to give admission to the students in this college and currently there has been admission of the ALL INDIA ENGINEERING ENTERANCE EXAMINATION 2008 passing students also. The COA itself had stated that should have been no admission in this college since 2005, as our college is poorly equipped in certain norms laid out by the COA, whereas there still has been an allotment in the college for the Department of Architecture by the MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT.

Till the year 2007, all the students of this department were kept in a loop and were told by the college authorities that the work for gaining the recognition of the COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE was being done. When we, the students saw no progress in this matter we all started a peaceful protest by sitting in-front of the colleges’ administrative block in September 2007. When the college saw this agitation from the side of the students they were then forced to do something that would “show” that the college administration is doing something to help the students. The director himself was unaware of the condition of the students till then. During the agitation there was a 5 day peaceful protest in which all the students of the department sat in front of the office of the director. At the end of the protest the DIRECTOR and all the faculty of the DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE asked the students for time to meet to the requirements of the COA. The students thought about that and agreed to give the college administration some time and hence the students started to attend the classes and the time limit was set till February 2009.

When this date came the only thing done by the college was to provide the students with 5 new faculty members. The college administrations had promised to call upon the COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE to come and see if all the requirements have been fulfilled by the college, but the call never took place. And since the college was unable to fulfil its promise given to the students, we the students are again in a state of worry regarding our future.

Even though we were protesting against the shattering of our career, even though the college and the administration knows how very important and rightful is for us to be firstly, recognised by the COA and then provided with a registration number as we pass out, they have ceased to provide us with any support worth showing their help in this matter at all. On the other hand we received “notices” telling us to stop the agitation “otherwise we may be debarred from attending our End Semester Examinations”

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE, WHAT IS THE USE OF ATTENDING THOSE CLASSES AND APPEARING IN THOSE EXAMS, WHEN WE HAD BEEN DOING THAT FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS BY RELYING ON THE PROMISES MADE TO US BY OUR COLLEGE, WHEN OUR FUTURE, OUR DREAMS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE HAVE ALREADY BEEN TAKEN AWAY??????????

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER AND REQUEST YOU TO JOIN OUR AGITATION, OUR PLEA TO THIS SYSTEM TO GIVE US OUR VERY BASIC RIGHT.
